In just the last 50 years, our world has advanced in medicine, technology, and creativity. In 2017, we celebrate and remember some people, places, and things that changed the culture in America and the world. It is indeed a big year for Anniversaries. Here’s a few highlights: 

10th year:

20th year:

  • Death of Lady Diana

30th year:

  • Panera Bread, Prozac and Red Bull

  • Movies Dirty Dancing, The Princess Bride, and Robocop

 

40th year:

  • Star Wars: A New Hope, Saturday Night Fever, and Smokey and the Bandit
  • Elvis’ death
  • Chia Pets and the Wedgie
  • Roots TV series
  • Blizzard of ’77 [Buffalo, NY]

50th year:

  • SuperBowl I, Boeing 737, and the 25th Amendment
  • ATMs, Microwaves, and the Chevy Camaro
  • The Doors debut album, Beatles release Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and the Monterey Pop Festival
  • Battleship, the Slurpie, Pringle’s, and the Big Mac
  • The First African-American Justice Thurgood Marshall
  • Israel fought and won the Six- Day War against Egypt
