Stop Giving Satan All the Credit: Sometimes the Problem Is Us
A Christian wake-up call about spiritual warfare, personal responsibility, and the power of a renewed mind.
“IS IT THE DEVIL—or IS IT YOU?”: Part 1 – Part 2 – Part 3 – Part 4 – Part 5
We live in a time when people blame the devil for almost everything.
- A bad day? The devil.
- A broken relationship? The devil.
- A financial setback? The devil.
- A door that closes? Must be spiritual warfare.
But what if we’re sometimes giving Satan credit for things that have more to do with our own choices, attitudes, habits, and decisions?
What if the greatest battle you’re facing isn’t always the devil attacking you—but you refusing to let God change you?
That’s a question the church needs to be willing to ask.
Part 1. Not Every Problem Is a Spiritual Attack
The Bible absolutely teaches that spiritual warfare is real. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that our struggle is not merely against flesh and blood. I Peter 5:8 warns believers to be alert because the devil seeks someone to devour.
We should never ignore the reality of spiritual opposition. But Scripture also tells us to examine ourselves. Galatians 6:7 says that we reap what we sow.
Sometimes the consequences we’re experiencing aren’t attacks from the enemy. They’re the harvest of decisions we’ve made. If we continually mistreat people, we shouldn’t be surprised when relationships break down. If we refuse wise counsel, we shouldn’t be surprised when we repeat the same mistakes. If we neglect prayer, the Word, and fellowship with God, we shouldn’t be surprised when our spiritual lives become weak.
We must learn to distinguish between spiritual warfare and personal responsibility.
Discernment means knowing when to resist the devil—and when to repent, grow, and make a change.
